Tailored Global Solutions

A history that moulds the future.

In the early Eighties Birkby's made major investments in its site, buildings and technology. Its relationship with Ford strengthened culminating in securing all Ford's instrumentation business of the time.

Birkby's became pioneers in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) in the plastic moulding industry in the 80's and continue to be recognised for our expertise in design for manufacture.

In 1989 the company was bought out by GEC Siemens and was subsequently sold on to the Marubeni Corporation a year later.

Under Marubeni the company underwent a massive modernisation programme, restructuring in 2002 to facilitate growth and development in manufacturing excellence and technical capability.

Birkby's was the only plastics manufacturer to receive one of Toyota Motor Corporation's four inaugural Regional Contribution Awards at the company's Global Supplier Convention in Nagoya, Japan in March 2005 and continues to enjoy a strong relationship with the manufacturer.

After a highly competitive pitch with other leading European moulders, Birkby's signed a prestigious technical agreement with Global Automotive parts supplier Kumi Kasei of Japan. This significant partnership involves close collaboration between Kumi Kasei and Birkby's for the design and development of innovative automotive trim products for a leading Japanese automotive manufacturer.

In 2003 Marubeni transferred ownership to the management team who then undertook a vigorous reshaping of the company benefitting from strong relationships with UK based Japanese automotive manufacturers.

In 2005 Birkby's continued its family oriented traditions inviting all employees and their families on site to participate in a well attended fun open day where many employees took pride in showing their families their place of work and undertook informative guided factory tours led by the MD.

Birkby's built upon its reputation for excellence offering a turnkey service from product design through to JIT manufacture and complex assemblies, using a wide variety of components with its injection mouldings.

Specialising in value engineering Birkby's ensured optimisation of material properties, ease of manufacture and assembly using latest technologies and  engineering according to guidelines for safety, environment and international specifications to ensure growth of its customer base and industry reputation.

Most recently in 2008 Birkby's was bought out by the current management team (Verve) who are facing the industry challenges head on, leading Birkby's onwards to grow our position in both new and existing markets from our position as the largest independent plastic injection moulder in the UK.
